Baboon rangers deployed within certain Cape areas for December

Posted on 20 November 2024 By Nomvelo Masango

The Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team (CPBMJTT) has announced that NCC Environmental Services will oversee baboon ranger services across affected areas during December.

As reported by SANParks, the City of Cape Town appointed NCC to ensure the presence of baboon rangers from the 1st to the 31st of December 2024.

This is in an effort to keep troops out of urban areas and in their natural habitat as much as possible.

As a result of limited funding, the number of rangers deployed to monitor the troops this time around will be less than before.

Thus, residents and businesses are also kindly advised to be vigilant at all times, as well as to practise responsible waste management.

CPBMJTT has further confirmed that other processes are underway to facilitate the transition to a more sustainable urban baboon programme.

It will involve communities, as well as parties to the CPBMJTT which include representatives from SANParks, Cape Nature and the City of Cape Town.
