Smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices have been banned from one of the 12 pools at the Ayana Resort and Spa in Bali, Indonesia, to promote relaxation.
The resort’s ‘In the Moment’ programme encourages visitors to disconnect from all things digital by prohibiting them from bringing smartphones and other electronic devices to the resort’s River Pool from 9am to 5pm every day.
For visitors who don’t wish to leave their devices unattended in their rooms, the resort provides lockers for storing them while they swim.

The idea of the programme is that guests can truly unwind at the poolside without the interruptions of digital devices. People may choose to read books or magazines, but the hotel also provides entertainment in the form of magnetic chess, Jenga and playing cards.
A rep from Ayana told CNN Travel, “The ethos of River Pool is to create a place of tranquility, where our guests can truly relax and be in the moment.”
While ‘In the Moment’ may appeal to many, on the opposite side of the spectrum are hotels that hire photographers and influencers to provide picture-perfect content for visitors that they can post to their social media feeds.
