A bull elephant in Kruger National Park has been put down after repeatedly destroying property at the Letaba Rest Camp.
‘It is with deep regret that the Letaba Section Ranger was forced to destroy a bull elephant that has been repeatedly breaking down the fence at Letaba Rest Camp. The animal was put down to avoid human casualties,’ SANParks said.
‘KNP Management were on site today to assess infrastructure damage and assess the state of the Letaba camp. The KNP ME said that immediate steps will be put in place in the week to repair and strengthen fences which are being repeatedly broken.’
It is unclear what caused the elephant to act aggressively.
