Derived from the Dutch word meaning “fine bush”, Fynbos is one of only six floral kingdoms in the world and is the only one that occurs entirely in one country – South Africa.
In keeping with their commitment to immerse guests in all things Cape Town, Cape Grace is launching three ways for guests to experience Fynbos.
“We endeavor to put our guests in touch with the social and natural heritage of Cape Town so that they leave with a deeper understanding of the rich complexity of our country. Fynbos, being incredibly rare and resilient, has been integral in helping to create that special sense of place for our guests”, comments Nelson Caboz, Executive Manager at Cape Grace.
Exclusive Fynbos Fragranced Amenity Range
“The Fynbos Collection” is a fragrance amenity range developed exclusively for Cape Grace in collaboration with local fragrancier, Agata Karolina, founder of perfumery – House of Gozdawa.
The Fynbos fragrance pays tribute to the hotel’s location between land and sea. Distilled from 100% natural oils, the Fynbos fragrance includes fresh top notes of locally-grown citrus and middle notes of earthy Fynbos, grounded by wooded tones of Vetiver.
The range includes room fragrance, shampoo and conditioner, hand cream and more. Locally designed packaging has also been created to be as minimal and reusable as possible – sustainability kept front of mind.
Exclusive Fynbos Tour
An exclusive experience for in-house guests, the Cape Grace Fynbos Tour is a guided experience that accommodates up to six. Guests will be treated to an introduction to this rare plant species, as well as spectacular views of Cape Town from the comfort of a customized safari vehicle.
The half-day trip explores a secluded section of the iconic Table Mountain that is closed to most travelers. A light picnic lunch and wine tasting are served with spanning views of Cape Grace and Cape Town.
In addition to experiencing the hidden wonders of Table Mountain’s expanse of Fynbos, guests will be contributing to the preservation of the Natural World Heritage site. Ten percent of all proceeds are donated the South African National Parks for the conservation and general upkeep of South Africa’s national parks.
Fynbos Infused Beverages at Cape Grace
Sample one of the most famous Fynbos varietals at Cape Grace’s iconic Afternoon Tea. Hosted in the library with views of the yacht marina, Afternoon Tea here is a celebrated tradition. Cape Grace has created their teas in partnership with Nigiro, passionate local producers of the finest loose leaf teas and blends.
If something stronger is desired the Rooibos Whisky Sour is served at Cape Grace’s whisky bar, Bascule. Rooibos has become part of South Africa’s way of life and is considered by many as our national beverage. Grown exclusively in the Western Cape’s Fynbos region, this unique South African plant is recognised across the world for its versatility and refreshing taste. This delicious cocktail variation consists of Three Ships bourbon cask whisky, fresh lime juice, rooibos syrup, cellulose and bitters.
