Creation Wines from Hermanus has just won 10th place in the prestigious World’s Best Vineyards competition, the highest spot a South African wine farm has ever reached on the list, IOL reports.

This award comes at a time when the industry has been affected by repeated bans on alcohol sales the challenges of Covid-19. Co-founder of Creation  Wines, Carolyn Martin said ‘never in the 19 years of Creation’s existence have we faced so many challenges as we have in the past 18 months.’

Despite the challenges facing the industry, Martine said this is where the true South African girt came to the fore and that their achievement is a testament to the spirit of their team.

‘Over the tough months we got creative and designed virtual tasting kits that we dispatched locally and internationally to keep our customers engaged,’ she said.

She said they skilled up with specialist training courses to make use of lockdown so that when they opened for business again, they can greet guests with renewed enthusiasm.

Premiere Alan Winde said that it is heartwarming to see the local wine industry doing well in this prestigious competition, putting vineyards and cellars on the map globally.

The prestigious award is judged by an expert panel on different criteria such as ambience, cuisine activities, views and staff. The vote is not just about the wine, but the overall experience of the farm.
