Spearheaded by Deon Cloete, the former MD of Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and King Shaka International, CWA is set to become a key commercial aviation hub in the region.
Previously known as Fisantekraal Airfield, the site was originally built as a South African Air Force base. Located just 5 km from the N1 highway, the airport will seamlessly integrate road, rail, and air transport for a multimodal travel experience.
Construction is expected to commence later this year, pending regulatory approvals, and completion is slated for late 2027 or early 2028. The project includes a 3.5km runway, terminal building, aircraft hangar, retail outlets, and an adjacent hotel. Designed with sustainability in mind, CWA aims to set new benchmarks with renewable energy use and water-efficient landscaping.
To attract airlines, CWA is collaborating with Wesgro to leverage strategies used for CPT. Cloete and his team are also attending global aviation events, such as Routes World conferences, to position the airport as a key destination in the Western Cape.
