The mens’ verbal confrontation quickly escalated when the one man, wearing a cap, stood up and lunged toward the other man, prompting concerned nearby passengers to shout, as tensions flared.

Quick-thinking passengers attempted to de-escalate the situation by restraining the men, while cabin crew rushed to separate the pair.

Staff members could be heard urging the men to remain calm.

The passenger fight on the Jetstar plane diffused when a number of passengers and crew members stepped in.

A Jetstar spokesperson confirmed the airline is investigating the incident, stating they have a “zero tolerance policy for disruptive and abusive behavior on our flights,”adding: “Our crew members are trained to de-escalate incidents involving unruly passengers and we thank them for how they managed this situation.”

The altercation comes amid growing concerns about tourist behaviour in Bali.

The Indonesian government recently introduced a series of new guidelines for tourists in a bid to clamp down on inappropriate behaviour, reports Euro News.

Balinese Governor Wayan Koster warned travellers who fail to show respect for the island’s people, culture, and environment will face fines or even jail time.

“We issued a similar regulation before, but as things change, we need to adapt. This ensures that Bali’s tourism remains respectful, sustainable, and in harmony with our local values,” Koster said.

The guidelines focus on ensuring tourists respect sacred sites and pay Bali’s visitor tax while requiring them to use official guides, stay in licensed accommodations, obey traffic rules, and exchange money only at authorised locations.

“I am implementing this circular as an immediate measure to regulate foreign tourists while they are in Bali,” Koster added.
