During a WildEarth LIVE safari excursion, guide Busani Mtshali and his crew managed to capture an extraordinary video that shows just how cruel Mother Nature can be.
The ranger was monitoring a mother cheetah and her two cubs quench their thirst at a watering hole when he noticed what looked like an adult crocodile lurking in the water near one of the cubs. What happened next was a truly heart-wrenching encounter.
As one of the cheetah cubs approached the watering hole, the well-hidden crocodile suddenly appears out of nowhere and viciously grabs the cub from the bank of the watering hole, dragging it into the water.
Arguably the saddest moment of the clip is when the camera pans over to the mother cheetah and her remaining cub as they watch helplessly while the crocodile drags the cheetah to its death.
‘Sometimes nature can be harsh and difficult to understand. While we would prefer scenes like this to have happier endings, every animal has its role to play in the ‘circle of life’, even the crocodile,’ wrote WildEarth in a description of the video.
