The City of Cape Town will assist SANParks this festive season to ensure the safety of popular hiking spots.
Trails within the Table Mountain National Park had seen a spate of muggings in the past with the City’s Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, saying that is impossible to maintain a constant presence on these trails.
‘Instead the City uses a data-led enforcement approach to assist both SAPS and SANParks’ with enforcement working in ‘tandem with numerous other agencies and organisations to ensure integration all year-round, but with special emphasis on the festive season.’
Support will be in the form of increased patrols, by area law enforcement staff and the Law Enforcement Tourism Unit.
