In 2016, South Africa’s minister of minerals and energy granted one of the country’s largest anthracite coal mines in Somkhele, Tendele Mine, the right to expand 22 000 hectare mining operations by 222km², which will result in the displacement of 145 families and threaten the Hluhluwe – iMfolozi Park
