Comair had said it would resume operations by November 2020 after going into business rescue in March. A new report has floated December as the opening month for flights from the carrier.
According to the Sunday Times, Comair has decided upon an offer from a consortium which will see a R500 million injection with a further R600 million to be received later.
‘There were five offers received. Deloitte independently assessed those that could be taken forward. This offer was selected as it had the most potential ensuring Comair could continue to operate,’ said Comair business rescue practitioners Shaun Collyer and Richard Ferguson.
The confirmation of a decision regarding this bid means that once the deal goes through, Comair can begin working again under the specifications given by their lenders.
While the company has not confirmed a date, the sooner operations begin the faster they can begin pulling in revenue. In addition, they are currently losing out to FlySafair, Mango and Airlink which are already operating flights on domestic routes.
Whether Comair will start-up all its previous routes is yet to be seen, however as inter-provincial travel is still expected to be slow, a phased roll-out might be on the cards.
