Crowded beaches, mass pollution in sunny UK

The chills are setting in for us but parts of the Northern hemisphere are experiencing extreme heat. England recorded some unusually warm weather on Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25, reports CNN.

The local Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said it was the hottest day of the year. Thousands of people flocked to the coast despite warnings not to, with no social distancing or hygiene measures in sight.

The country recorded a temperature of 33°C on Thursday according to the BBC, while Friday is forecast to reach a lovely 27°C. The UK is known for rainy and overcast weather most of the year and when the climate does get milder, residents seek the sun.

Authorities are not happy, however as the country is still battling the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We are not in a position to welcome visitors in these numbers now or to deal with the full range of problems associated with managing volumes of people like this,’ Council leader Vikki Slade told CNN.

‘PLEASE do not come. We are not able to welcome you yet.’

It seemed safety and public rules were long forgotten as citizens enjoyed the freedom of being outside. On Thursday, over 40 tons of waste had to be removed from the coastline and several people were found camping illegally overnight.

‘The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe,’ Slade added.

The government urged residents to refrain from public spaces and adhere to social distancing rules. ‘It is only due to the public’s hard work that we have been able to bring the virus under control, and if the rules don’t continue to be followed and the virus starts to spread exponentially again, we will have to look at having to reverse some of the easements that have been put in place…’ Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesperson said, according to The Independent.
