American carrier Delta Air Lines have delayed the resumption of its Atlanta-Johannesburg flights, as well as its new Cape Town-Atlanta route until January 9 2021.
The flight operations were originally supposed to begin in December 2020.
‘We continue to adjust our flight schedules. As a result, the planned restart of operations between South Africa and Atlanta has been postponed until January 2021,’ Delta Air Lines director of sales for Africa, the Middle East and India Jimmy Eichelgruen told Travel News.
‘The first flights are now due to depart Johannesburg and Cape Town on 9 January. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers.’
In May the airline announced the retirement of its Boeing 777 fleet by the end of 2020. This will make Delta the first major US airline to do so. The airline will be operating a A350-900 on this route. The Cape Town stop will be to refuel after the Atlanta – Johannesburg route before continuing back to Atlanta.
