The development of Cape Winelands Airport, formerly the Fisantekraal Airfield, is underway.
South African billionaire Rob Hersov purchased the property in 2021 with the ambitious plan to transform the airport into a ‘full-service hub that will cater for both scheduled passenger flights as well as general aviation activities,’ and private aircraft owners reported TravelNews.

The airport director, Mark Wilkinson, confirms the rapid progress of the Cape Winelands Airport developments, encompassing upgraded aeronautical facilities and an expanded runway. These upgrades will amplify the airport’s capacity and create more accessible air travel for the public.
Wilkinson said, ‘Airports are known to have a large catalytic multiplier effect and act as economic engines by stimulating growth, trade, investment, economic activity, and most importantly, job creation.’
DA Spokesperson for Tourism Manny de Freitas said the objective of the expansion is to invigorate the region’s growth and augment tourism opportunities in the northern province.
