Black mambas are known as Africa’s largest venomous snake, and also as one of the fastest snakes to roam the earth. They call the North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal provinces their home.
Recently, a young girl in Durban was alerted to a 2.3-metre black mamba above her bed by her dog, who began barking profusely and looking up at the snake.

The family quickly called snake rescuer Nick Evans and his friend Grant to rescue the snake. ‘As we walked in, we could see the mamba. It was draped over the top of the wall of the cabin, looking back at us,’ Evans told IOL.
Evans said he was worried the mamba might try to move out the back and venture back into the bush, but Evans and his friend managed to rescue the snake without complications. ‘I walked up to it and reached out slowly with the tongs, grabbing it gently. I had the tail end, so I grabbed that with my hand, and with the tongs in my right hand, waited till the head appeared. After a short while, it did, and I pinned it down.’
