As the tourism market in South Africa begins to rejuvenate, one of the Eastern Cape’s favourite bush lodges is set to reopen its doors to guests this weekend.
Kuzuko Lodge, known as the ‘Place of Glory’, is a much-loved and established place of hospitality, whose returning guests and staff know it for the three pillars on which it was founded; love, conservation and community. During lockdown the lodge and its remaining staff have been hard at work upholding these pillars by further contributing cheetah genetics to the Cheetah Metapopulation Management Program of the Endangered Wildlife Trust, recollaring South Africa’s renowned escape artist lion, Sylvester, continuing with its Spekboom planting trials, maintaining fences, upgrading facilities and collaring an elephant cow as to monitor the herd to further understand their use of the Kuzuko Lodge landscape. But, most importantly, delivering monthly food parcels to the near 60 staff whose jobs have been affected by the lockdown and closures.
‘After nearly four months of being closed, we cannot wait to open our doors and welcome our family of guests and staff back. We have an exciting line-up of specials and themed weekends to ensure that there is something for everyone,’ sasy Gerhard and Catherina de Lange, GMs of Kuzuko Lodge.
Set on 15 000 hectares of private, Big 5 game farm territory in the greater Addo area, Kuzuko Lodge is just 170kms from Port Elizabeth and close to the exquisite Eastern Cape coastline, making it an ideal escape on its own or as an add-on to an unforgettable bush & beach holiday. Built high up on a hill, the lodge offers 21 luxurious chalets each with breath-taking views. It also offers premium wheelchair access in and around the main lodge area, as well as in three of the chalets.
For adventure seekers and nature lovers, the lodge has a variety of activities on offer including game drives, cosmic stargazing safaris, nature walks- including one to Khoisan rock art, flyfishing for yellow fish, 4x4ing and a wild cheetah tracking experience. Kids can also enjoy countless educational activities as part of the Junior Rangers programme.
