Entries are now open for the challenging but spectacular 2022 Prescient Race2Stanford Triathlon. The triathlon is scheduled to take place on 14 May 2022 in the beautiful Overberg region through the picturesque Hemel and Aarde valley.
One of the most scenic half-iron events in the world, the race includes a 1900m swim in the Hermanus harbour, followed by a 90km cycle from Hermanus through the Hemel & Aarde valley, onwards to Caledon and then Stanford, where participants complete a 21km run on a lap course around the quaint village before finishing on the Stanford Green.
Leading financial investments company, Prescient, has taken the title sponsorship of the 2022 event. “We are exceptionally excited about our partnership with Race2Stanford. Prescient is about partnerships, which has underpinned every aspect of our business since its humble beginnings over two decades ago”, says Willem Venter, Chief Executive Officer at Prescient.
“As a business and a brand, we recognise the value of being meticulous, rigorous and thorough – values that are closely aligned with athletes training towards and participating in this event.”
Race founder Paul Ingpen describes the event as a spectacularly scenic and honest triathlon. “We’ve been told by those who have raced, that it’s the most scenic & challenging half iron distance course in the world.”
Now in its fifth year, the event is known for its social family vibe, with a finish featuring a village market with great local food, wine and beer and the option of joining a river cruise, or the 5km Supporters Run.
“The race will bring a tremendous number of visitors to the region, as entrants usually make it a weekend away out and bring their families – this is going to be crucial in helping to revive tourism in the area after the challenges of the Covid pandemic,” says Ingpen.
Top SA triathlete Matt Trautman, who has won tough races around the world, has not missed one event since it launched. The famous solo sailor turned pro triathlete calls it ‘the benchmark of honest half iron distance racing’.
2021 runner up James McCullum says “it’s a hard race with a soft inside – the hosts create a fun vibe with a warm & personal touch.”
Ingpen believes that the race is fast becoming a key event on the global triathlon calendar. “South Africa is already a global sporting destination with world-class iconic races like Cape Epic, Comrades marathon and Midmar Mile. Cape Town, and more specifically the whale watching tourist mecca of Hermanus, with its magical wine route and the riverside town of Stanford, provide both the perfect weekend away and a truly demanding and spectacular triathlon route, that is establishing itself as an iconic event on the triathlon calendar.”
