Travel operator Expedia has announced it will no longer sell holiday packages that include interactions between humans and wildlife, including aquatic performances by dolphins, whales and other wild animals.
The company coordinates and sells holiday packages to avid globe trotters, and has recently decided to detach itself from the exploitation of aquatic animals by updating its animal welfare policy.
The company’s new policy enforces strict guidelines that assess six aspects in relation to animals, namely nutrition, environment, health, behaviour, choice and control, and mental health.
Instead, it will now only promote accredited seaside sanctuaries which are purely for visual entertainment. They have, in addition, committed to only endorsing venues that are recognized by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
