Vietnam is known around the world for its fascinating traditional architecture, picturesque beaches, and of course its wide variety of local food options. Now, it looks as though this tropical country has another claim to fame, the world’s first self-proclaimed gold-plated hotel.
The Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake Hotel, located near the shores of Giang Vo Lake, opened its doors earlier this year, and has since received attention for its lavish, somewhat ostentatious architecture. The gold-plated hotel is filled with amenities fit for a king, including gold-plated bathtubs, sinks, and of course, toilets. If that isn’t enough gold for your liking, the hotel also features 24-karat gold tiled infinity pool on the rooftop.
‘It has changed my mind about what luxury can be. Other luxury hotels usually use marble as tiles, but here everything is gold-plated down to the washing basin,’ said 62-year-old guest Luong Van Thuan to Reuters.
According to Travel and Leisure, Nguyen Huu Duong, chairman of Hoa Binh Group, which owns the property, has been quoted as saying around one tonne of gold was used to decorate the hotel’s interior and exterior.
Surprisingly, the cost of staying at the 441-room hotel is not as expensive as you might expect. Rooms start at around R1,409 per night for the ‘King Room’. If you’ve got cash to burn, you could also opt for a night in the Deluxe King Suite, which goes for around R6,300 per night, and includes free breakfast for two and free Wi-Fi, according to Agoda.com.
