Sea, Air and Mountain (SEAM) special operations rangers conducted their first week of anti-crime operations in Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) in Cape Town last week, which led to arrests and removals of persons illegally overnighting in TMNP’s hotspot areas.
These hotspot areas include Signal Hill, Lions Head, Tafelberg road, and the front-facing areas, according to IOL.
TMNP park manager Frans van Rooyen commented on Seam’s first successful week: ‘We are grateful to have successes coming from the Seam operators in their first official week of operation and we will continue to focus on these urban edge zones to ensure the safety of our visitors.’
Some of the arrests made were individuals illegally overnighting in the Schotscenkloof area, as well as a suspicious individual on Signal Hill slopes who was in possession of a weapon and drugs.
All apprehended individuals were handed over to the South African Police Services, pending further investigation.
