George Airport (GRJ), is experiencing flight disruptions due to severe weather, according to the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS). Strong winds have necessitated the use of Runway 11, but with its instrument landing system (ILS) under maintenance, adverse conditions have made operations challenging.
Airlines may cancel or reroute flights, with alternative airports like Cape Town or Port Elizabeth as potential options.
Spokesperson Mphilo Dlamini says they are monitoring the situation, according to SABC News.
‘The weather condition around the airport is not conducive and safe for aircraft to operate with wind direction favouring the use of runway 11, whose instrument lending system flight procedure is still under maintenance. ATNS will continue to monitor the situation and advise airlines and aviation stakeholders accordingly.’
