Global air travel continues to increase after COVID-19, reaching 75% of what it was in November 2019.
Between 2021 and 2022, we saw a 43.3% increase in international travel. However, when looking at the increase between now and before COVID-19, we are 75,3% back to normal.
The International Air Transport Associated (IATA) reported that Asia-Pacific airlines had seen the most significant increase in air travel each year. Between 2021 and 2022, they had a 373.9% increase, while African airlines saw an 83.5% increase between those two years.
Domestic air travel has also risen by 77.7% between November 2019 and November 2022. However, there was only a 3.4% increase in domestic air travel between 2021 and 2022 ‘with travel restrictions in China continuing to dampen the global results.’
IATA believes that the ‘traffic results in November reinforce that consumers are thoroughly enjoying the freedom to travel.’
