The term ‘hygge’ is a Danish word that refers to the act of creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people, according to Visit Denmark.
A Japanese camping ground has taken the concept of ‘hygge’ and turned it into a luxury campground, called’ Nordisk Hygge Circles’, which travelers can use as a healing space.
Nordisk Hygge Circles is located at the foot of the mountains of Inaba and was designed by a Japanese-Danish team called ‘Third Nature’. The goal behind the site was to join luxury travel with a sustainable camping experience.
The site consists of three different zones. An overnight section with cabins and platters for glamping tents, a dedicated area meant to teach visitors about nature, and an area along the estuary where you can pitch your own tent, according to Tredje Natur.
‘The master plan and buildings embody a unique environment and a regenerative “hygge” experience in nature. It is our hope that our project will become the base camp for a new type of regional nature-based development that promote sustainable awareness and brings the gift of nature to many urban dwellers,’ said Flemming Rafn Thomsen, lead architect and Co-Founder of Third Nature.
Nordisk Hygge Circles is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021.
