Visiting Greece in the summer is the holiday of dreams. This country is an incredibly popular destination under normal circumstances. With the outbreak of COVID-19 and the global aviation industry grinding to a halt, the chances of a holiday in Greece in the foreseeable future looked bleak.
The Mediterranean country, however, may not be inaccessible for much longer. Greece proactively enforced an early and strict lockdown, keeping the death rate at an all-time low. Around 150 deaths have been recorded so far, according to CNN.
Small businesses, such as hairdressers, bookstores, repair shops and sporting goods outlets have all reopened.
Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spoke to CNN and said that the reopening of certain business may be able to help the country work out a model for welcoming in tourists for the summer.
Greece is heavily dependent on its travel industry and the income it generates.
‘The tourism experience this summer may be slightly different from what you’ve had in previous years.
‘Maybe no bars may be open, or no tight crowds, but you can still get a fantastic experience in Greece, provided that the global epidemic is on a downward path,’ said Mitsotakis to CNN.
