After facing a dog attack in Camps Bay and suffering severe injuries, a female caracal has been released back into the wild.
The caracal was taken in and rehabilitated by the dedicated team at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA wildlife unit. She needed medical attention due to the wounds inflicted upon her in the dog attack.
Urban Caracal Project, a Cape Town-based research and conservation project, reminded dog owners to keep their four-legged friends on a lead when in green space and Table Mountain National Park. ‘Dogs chase, harass, attack, and even kill wildlife. They can also transmit deadly diseases like canine distemper, even to wild cats like caracals.’
The project urges people to pick up after their dogs and ensure their pets’ vaccinations are up to date.
