Russell Cook, better known as the ‘Hardest Geezer’ on social media, has just achieved something that nobody ever has: running the entire length of Africa, from tip to tip, crossing the finish line in Tunisia after a whirlwind 352-day journey.
Before Russell embarked on his continental challenge, he had a mission in mind: to live a life with no regrets, and not to look back.
The 27-year-old from Worthing, West Sussex, had battled his own demons, from mental health struggles to issues with gambling and drinking. He wanted to turn it all around and ‘make a difference.’

And make a difference, he did. Through sheer determination and grit, Russell powered through 16 countries, raising an incredible £700,000 (approximately R16.5 million) for charity along the way.
As he crossed the finish line in Ras Angela, Tunisia, the cheers from the crowd were deafening. “I’m pretty tired,” Russell told reporters, with a well-earned smile on his face.

But Russell’s journey wasn’t without its hurdles. His original plan to run from Tunisia to South Africa hit a roadblock when he couldn’t secure an Algerian visa. But did he let that stop him? Not a chance.
With a last-minute change of plans, Russell set off from South Africa’s southernmost point on April 22nd. From bustling cities to dense rainforests, towering mountains to the vast Sahara Desert, he tackled it all head-on.
Adversity met him along the way. An armed robbery in Angola, recurring back pain, and the uncertainty of whether he’d secure the Algerian visa to complete his mission. But Russell isn’t one to back down from a challenge.

His determination saw him through, fuelled by support of millions of people worldwide. Even tech titan Elon Musk and UK MPs took notice, rallying behind him in his quest for the crucial visa.
After months of gruelling miles and obstacles, Russell found himself in the heart of the Sahara Desert, with the finish line in sight.
With supporters by his side and the desert sands beneath his feet, he pushed through, determined to reach his goal.

As he crossed the final finish line, the world celebrated with him. There were cheers, tears, and even a performance by British punk band Soft Play, formerly Slaves, to mark the occasion.
Amidst all the jubilation, there’s one thing Russell has been dreaming about since setting out on his journey: a strawberry daiquiri. And you know what? He’s earned every sip.
