The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence, Customs, and Environmental Affairs seized 17 rhino horns from a warehouse in Kempton Park on Monday, December 14.
Authorities received an intelligence tip off relating to a suspicious consignment dropped off at the warehouse in a crate. The cargo was marked as chicken food mixture and was en route to Kuala Lumpur.
The South African Police Services released a statement and said: ‘Upon searching the consignment, authorities found a large blue geyser and discovered seventeen big and small rhino horns weighing about 72.40kg wrapped in foil. Police are following on information regarding the suspect’s identity.’
