Even though the KwaZulu-Natal floods delayed the completion of the Hazelmere Dam by three months, construction is on track to have the dam finished by December.
‘We are on track to complete the project in time for much of the rainy season,’ said Provincial head of the water and sanitation department, Ashley Starkey.
Once complete, the wall will have been raised by seven metres with a piano keir weir that requires less maintenance, The North Coast Courier reports.
With just three anchors left to be tensioned, once complete – the dam’s capacity will more than double. The dam supplies the areas of KwaDukuza to Groutville, Blythedale, Ballito and Verulam.
