A heavy hailstorm hit Johannesburg on Monday afternoon, 5 December. Storm clouds had been circling overhead for most of the morning, but the storm finally hit at about 2:00 pm according to Good Things Guy.
Thundershowers and strong winds were also experienced throughout the region.
The South African Weather Service said that ‘the storm would likely result in localised flooding, threatening low-lying areas, especially informal settlements.’
Robert Mulaudzi from the Johannesburg Emergency Services said that they had not received any injury reports by 4:30 pm, although some cars had been damaged by falling trees in Sandton, reports News24.
More thundershowers are expected for the week ahead.
