The Department of Home Affairs have announced a number of services that will be operational during lockdown. The Department has also released a new directive that stipulates that South African residents and foreign nationals may enter or leave the country, within certain limits.
The Home Affairs services that are in operation during lockdown include:
– Reissue of birth and death certificates;
– Issuance of temporary identity certificates;
– Registration of deaths;
– Registration of birth, excluding late registration of birth;
– Collection of identity cards or documents; and
– Application for, and collection of, passports for persons engaged in the delivery of essential goods across the borders of the Republic and those travelling outside of the Republic for receiving medical services.
South Africans and foreign nationals will be able to enter or exit the country under exceptional circumstances and with the approval from Home Affairs minister, Aaron Motsoaledi.
The Department outlined these rules in a gazette and include being able to enter/ exit under the following circumstances:
– Emergency medical attention
– Repatriation
– Services
