What would you do if you were out on a boat in the open ocean, just going about your day when suddenly, a whale breaches nearly on top of you?
In Australia, photographer Carly Adams was in just the right place at the right time to witness this. ‘I was going down to see if I could get some shots of the whales and I was stoked when I got that,’ she told ABC News. ‘I just happened to get the shot and I was just so shocked about it,’ she said. She took the image in Coffs Harbour in New South Whales.
The humpback whale breached four times. ‘It just came out of the blue and I thought the people [on the boat] would have had a massive shock,’ she added.
In Australia, all marine mammals in Australia are protected, however humpback whales are still considered ‘vulnerable’ after being hunted to near extinction, according to The Australian Museum.
