Iconic St James beach bathing boxes burnt

Three colourful bathing boxes on St James Beach in Cape Town were burnt in a fire on Saturday, August 8. St James Beach is famous for the multi-colour structures. 

This section of False Bay, between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek, is a popular spot among visitors and residents.

The cause of the incident is unknown. Wayne Dyason, a law enforcement spokesperson, explained that the law enforcement officers found the 3 bathing boxes alight at around 1am on Saturday, August 8. 

In a statement he said: ‘The fire was extinguished by the Fire department. 3 boxes completely gutted and 2 damaged partially. The cause of the fire is unknown.’ 

The circumstances around how the fire began are currently being investigated.
