The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India is making changes under the Green Transportation Programme. They will introduce electric vehicles (EVs) on their airside in stages, authorities announced on World Environmental Day.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar says,’DIAL has set a target to make Delhi Airport a Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030, and is continuously working to achieve this goal.’

IOL reports that they will launch 62 RVs for its airside operations. This transition will help reduce almost 1 000 tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. According to DIAL, they will introduce these green vehicles within three to four months.

‘The adoption of electric vehicles for managing airport operations is a step forward. It is a first-of-its-kind initiative by any Indian airport to ensure a clean transportation environment,’ Jaipuriar adds.

‘DIAL is also planning to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. This will ensure that the electricity used for the charging of these vehicles is also emission-free.’
