An earthquake of 7.4 struck in the Molucca Sea between the Indonesian provinces of North Sulawesi and North Maluku triggering a risk of a tsunami in nearby areas.
According to the US Geological Survey, the tremor was measured 134km from the port city of Ternate at a depth of 45km.
According to Independent UK, Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami alert following the quake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said hazardous waves were possible within 300km of the epicentre but further than this there is little risk.
