It’s spring here in the southern hemisphere while in the northern half of our planet autumn leaves would be what you’d expect to see in Japan, not cherry blossoms.
However some of the country’s famed cherry trees have been confused by unusual weather patterns resulting in unseasonal blooms.
According to CNN, Japanese weather site Weather News reports that over 350 blooming trees have been seen across the country.
Because Japan was lashed by violent typhoons this past summer, stripping the trees of their foliage, there has been nothing to inhibit the buds’ development. “This, coupled with warmer temperatures following the storms, has resulted in the earlier-than-planned blooming,” reports CNN.
Here are some photos of the current blooms, as well as some of the spring cherry blossoms (sakura) in their full glory in spring.
