Kenya Airways has significantly upgraded its flights from Nairobi to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Starting 1 August, the airline will replace its Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the more advanced Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on these routes.
All direct flights to Cape Town, currently operating three times a week, will feature the new aircraft. Additionally, five out of 26 weekly flights to Johannesburg will now be night flights operated with the B787-8.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner offers enhanced passenger comfort, featuring lie-flat seats in business class and a more generous seat pitch in economy class. The upgrade also increases seating capacity, with the new aircraft accommodating 204 passengers in economy class and 30 in Premier World, compared to the 129 economy and 16 Premier World seats on the B737-800.
Kenya Airways will suspend flights to Bangui, Central African Republic, in a related development, from 9 August. Consequently, the five weekly flights between Nairobi and Douala, Cameroon, will no longer stop in Bangui starting 11 August.
Martin Gitonga, Kenya Airways’ Head of Network Planning and Alliances, explained, ‘In light of the current market landscape and as part of our Business Continuity Plan, Kenya Airways has made the strategic decision to make adjustments on its route networks to ensure smoother and more efficient operations.’
