Clashes in Sudan have led to the closure of Sudanese airspace until at least 30th April. The Sudan airspace is an important highway for several key global routes, and closures are impacting major airlines which operate in Africa.
After the destruction of two parked aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 and a Saudia Airbus A330-300 operated by Ukrainian SkyUp Airlines, Sudan’s Khartoum International Airport shut down.
Qatar Airlines, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, and Saudi Airlines have all had to reroute flights to reach African and South American countries. Ethiopian Airlines has been most affected, needing to reroute up to 38 routes in its network.
