KwaZulu-Natal residents were shaken by a tremor of 4.3-magnitude at 1:19pm today, 31 October, on the south coast.
The quake was felt in around Durban, Amanzimtoti, Port Shepstone, Hibberdene and Pietermaritzburg.
According to SAPeople contributor Thea Venter, her whole house shook. She was at her seaside home in Athlone Park, near Amzimtoti on the south coast, when the earthquake struck.
‘It was so scary. House shook and windows rattled. Thought my house was going down into the ocean! We are not used to this,’ she said.
The tremor is believed to have occurred following an earthquake in the southern Philippines that measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, according to News24.
No injuries have been reported so far and it didn’t take long for South Africans to see the humourous side of the tremor and post their thoughts on social media.
Had to go outside to check if it was really an earthquake or Prakash was revving his GTI. #durbantremor
