The severe weather left many motorists stranded in their vehicles for two nights as snow blocked sections of the road.

According to IOL,KZN acting Premier Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa reported that while some motorists remain trapped, many have been rescued. Emergency teams and resources have been deployed to assist those still stranded, with efforts underway to clear the roads.

‘We are working tirelessly to provide safe passage and assistance,’ said Madlopha-Mthethwa. The Red Cross, Al Imdaad Foundation, and local agencies are providing food, water, and hot meals to affected motorists. Helicopters from the South African Police Service (SAPS) and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) are also on standby to deliver supplies and evacuate individuals from hard-hit areas.

Although the South African Weather Service forecasts improved conditions, motorists are urged to remain cautious as clean-up operations continue. A 30km stretch of road near Tugela Plaza and Harrismith remains impassable due to snow and abandoned vehicles.
