LIFT Airlines has introduced a new service to satisfy their customers’ needs.
LIFT is allowing their passengers to board their flights with their furry best friend. Dogs may now be placed under the seat in front of their owner while on board.
To qualify, the dog has to be small and at least 10 weeks old and fit in a dog carrier bag no bigger than 28cm x 20cm x 45cm to ensure they fit under the seat. However, the dog will not be getting a cheaper ticket, the dog-friendly ticket will be equal to the fare paid by the accompanying adult.
According to IOL, LIFT co-founder Jonathan Ayache said ‘We regularly engage with our customers to understand what new service offerings and other enhancements can be made to improve their experience with us, and a prominent call has been for their pets to travel with them during their flights.’
Ayache added that they are proud to offer this new service to their customers as they know how dogs make great family members in their customers’ lives.
This exemption was previously only offered to authorised service dogs (assistant dogs or guide dogs) and most South African airlines still require pets to be booked onto a flight as cargo.
The airline which operates daily between Cape Town and Johannesburg will only be allowing a limited number of dogs on selected flights. Customers travelling with their dog will need to purchase an additional seat in a specific area of the cabin.
We’d love to have lizards on board! 😂 But for now, it’s only a max of 2 small dogs on select flights and those 2 small dogs will evacuate with their owners as per standard protocol.

To fly with their dogs, customers will need to book the flight at least 72 hours before departure. Relevant travel documents for their furry friends and health statements with up-to-date vaccination certificates will be needed before boarding the flight.
