An elderly man has drowned at uMdloti Tidal Pool, north of Durban after he was pulled out to the backline and encountered difficulty while swimming.
According to Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shaun Herbst, the man was spotted by lifeguards who swam to his aid. After pulling the man out of the water, the lifeguards rapidly started with CPR but found that he was unresponsive and not breathing.
When paramedics arrived on the scene, a full advanced life support resuscitation was initiated. Despite their best efforts, the patient rapidly deteriorated and was declared deceased on the scene.
