Vitaly Zdorovetskiy spent five days in an Egyptian jail after climbing the Pyramids of Giza to get the perfect photo for social media. He seemingly had no remorse for his actions and justified them by saying he ‘did it for a good cause’.
In writing about his experience of going to jail, Zdorovetskiy said: ‘I’ve been in jail many times but this one was by far the very worst. I saw horrible things and I don’t wish this upon anybody’.
In a video he shared after the post, Zdorovetskiy shared a video calling for viewers to ‘stop the war’ and to donate to the Australian bushfires.
In the video, he says: ‘Egypt, I love you. No disrespect to you. I just want to bring awareness to the world… millions of animals are lost, millions of people are hurting.’ This is not the first time an Instagram user with millions of followers has pulled a ridiculous stunt to draw attention to an on-going disaster. A woman sold nude photographs of herself for $10 donations toward the Australian bushfires and raised over $1-million. However her fundraising effort, unlike Zdorovetskiy’s, did not cause harm to one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
