A 38-year-old man has been rescued by emergency services after falling approximately 40-metres from the viewing platform at Howick Falls in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, December 30.
According to reports from Arrive Alive, the man fell off the platform after he was allegedly being chased by unknown assailants at 2am on Wednesday. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene just before 6.30am after being alerted by the South African Police Services who were already on the scene with another private emergency service.
ER24 paramedics, police and other private emergency services worked together to rescue the man. He was clinging to a branch on a small ledge, 40-metres down the 95-metre cliff face.
‘Our medic suited up in his harness while SAPS cordoned off the area to the 30 or so bystanders. The SAPS Search & Rescue team then arrived and set up a rope system,’ Arrive Alive explained in a statement.
‘As our medic was already suited up, they decided to lower him down to the patient to save time. The patient was assessed and found to have only suffered minor injuries. He was then attached to the medic’s harness via a sling and both were lifted back up to the platform just before 8 am,’ they said.
Once the man was rescued he was transported to Northdale hospital by the private emergency service where he received treatment for minor injuries.
SAPS is currently investigating the incident, although no details have been released to the public yet.
