The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) would like to reassure South Africans that Mauritius is still very much open for business, as airlines and tour operators continue to take holiday bookings in anticipation of the skies opening up once COVID-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions allow.
‘Bookings remain in place for departure from South Africa on Air Mauritius and we are buoyed by the positive response received thus far from the local travel trade,’ says MTPA Director Arvind Bundhun.
‘We encourage holiday makers to visit the websites of their favourite tour operators for more information on the latest package deals. They can also visit ratherbeinmauritius.co.za to find out more about our amazing island and get in touch with tour operators.’
Infection rates of COVID-19 have remained low in Mauritius and the country has in place stringent safety and hygiene measures to protect the public. At the time of writing this, Mauritius has recorded 331 infections in total.
‘We are encouraged by the statistics, as well as our government’s huge efforts to curb the infection rate and put in place effective health and safety measures,’ says Bundhun.
Mauritius Tourism is currently running a competition on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages where it is giving away three amazing holidays to Mauritius in a fun and interactive campaign in partnership with The LUX* Collective, Radisson Blu and Air Mauritius called #MakeYourOwnMauritius. Here the public can submit photographs of themselves at home mimicking their very own Mauritius experience – think snorkels, flippers, beach shorts, sun cream, loungers, golf clubs, trail running, fishing and tasty Mauritian curries.
‘We know that the skies will open up again and that those travellers who have come to know and love Mauritius – and those who plan to visit for the first time – will get the opportunity to experience the island’s amazing warmth and hospitality. Mauritius and South Africa have long enjoyed a magical relationship and we are confident this will continue as soon as it is safe to travel again,’ Bundhun concluded.
