Posted on 14 April 2025 By Lee-Ann Steyn

In May 2025, Botswana’s renowned Okavango Delta will welcome an exquisite addition to its luxury safari offerings with the opening of Monachira Camp. Situated on the banks of the Monachira Channel within the Moremi Game Reserve, this eco-conscious retreat promises an immersive experience in one of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas.

Staying true to Machaba Safaris’ signature style, Monachira Camp will embrace a classic and traditional safari atmosphere. While game drives will be available, the camp will focus on water-based activities and guided walking safaris, offering a more tranquil and immersive way to explore this remote corner of the Okavango Delta.

Monachira Camp, developed by Machaba Safaris, will feature eight luxury double tents and two spacious two-bedroom family tents, accommodating up to 24 guests. Each tent is thoughtfully designed with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and expansive decks that offer panoramic views of the surrounding floodplains and wetlands. The camp’s architecture emphasises sustainability, utilising solar energy and low-impact materials to minimize its ecological footprint. Accessible exclusively by helicopter from Kasane or Maun, Monachira ensures a secluded and intimate safari experience.
