The residents of Mossel Bay have reported experiencing an unpleasant smell in the area recently.
‘PetroSA acknowledges public concerns about the unpleasant smell in certain Mossel Bay areas and it is working closely with the Garden Route District Municipality’s Air Quality Control to establish and eliminate the source(s),’ said PetroSA in a statement.
The two parties are engaging on an ongoing basis and monitoring progress on the technical and management actions agreed upon to address complaints of residents of communities such as Dana Bay. The District’s Air Quality Officer has also notified PetroSA to identify and fix or discontinue any industrial process that could be linked to the odour until the processes can be run without giving off any offensive smell.
‘PetroSA has done extensive work to scrutinize production processes to determine any potential contributory factor, and will continue working together with the local environmental authorities to root out any actual or potential issue. The company is equally committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of its employees, communities and the environment,’ the statement continued.
‘Some good news is that some residents have reported not experiencing any foul smell this morning [August 12]’, PetroSA concludes.
