According to Travel News, South Africa’s outbound sports tourism represents a significant segment of the overall travel market.

Nicky Bell, CEO of Edusport, told Travel News, that as a sports travel operator, they had witnessed much growth in the country since the coronavirus pandemic.
‘South Africans are sports fanatics and we see big interest in football, rugby and moto-sport.’
She also added that most Formula 1 supporters want to experience Formula 1 in person at least once.
‘It’s a great opportunity to see different destinations while enjoying the sport.’
Additionally, South Africans often travel to watch international rugby matches, as well as football and cricket world cups.
Speaking to Travel News, Patrick Barta, CEO of golf tour operator, Gold Gourmet, shared that South Africans also have a huge appetite to travel for golf.
‘Golfers love to play new courses and travel, and many have the means to travel abroad.’
Some of the countries which are currently popular with Mzansi’s sporting travel include Portugal, Spain, France and Morocco.
