The Namibia Maritime Museum (NMM) in Lüderitz has announced a temporary closure for construction. The museum will reopen on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 9:30 AM as per Travelnews.Africa.
Having opened on November 1, 2024, the NMM is Namibia’s first maritime museum and among the largest in Africa. It is located in the historic Lüderitz Old Power Station, a 1911 building that provides a unique backdrop for showcasing Namibia’s maritime heritage. Spanning 2,000 square meters, the museum houses ancient watercraft, fossils, maps, and a large library, alongside thousands of antiques and art displays.
Exhibits include shark skeletons and other treasures highlighting the region’s rich marine history. The closure will allow for upgrades to improve the visitor experience, possibly introducing new features and enhanced facilities.
