The resulting havoc, ranging from flooding in various areas to heavy damage to infrastructure, has prompted a response from the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management team, which has logged many reports.

Since Monday, the hazardous weather conditions have left approximately 158,097 people and 47,663 structures in distress. The situation in the small town of Citrusdal is particularly dire, with the town cut off due to washed away access roads.

Charlotte Powell, the spokesperson of Disaster Risk Management, has commented on the team’s efforts to assess and address the damage caused appropriately.

Many affected areas were logged as informal settlements. She states,The City’s Informal Settlements Management Department issued 1,090 flood kits in various informal settlements over the weekend, in addition to the kits handed out during the week.”
