New e-visa system in South Africa to launch in March 2022

Posted on 16 November 2021

Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana has announced that South Africa will be introducing the new e-visa system in March 2022. This highly-anticipated e-visa system is meant to simplify the visa application process and ultimately increase tourism.

Godongwana presented his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) earlier this month, which stated that the e-visa system was finally completed and would be rolled out to fifteen countries next year. Tourists will no longer be subjected to time-consuming administrative tasks and complex requirements to obtain visas.

Tourists will be able to complete the visa application process online, and need certain required documents and information to complete the process.

According to IOL, President Cyril Ramaphosa commented in 2019 that ‘we must reduce the onerous and often unnecessary bureaucratic red tape that tourists who want to visit our countries face. This requires us to streamline our tourist visa regimes.’
